Three most commonly misused words, Word Nerd Series.

In just the past week I've heard all these words incorrectly used. I venture to say that they are misused so often I bet you can easily guess what the speaker actually intended to communicate.

1) NONPLUSSED

2) HEADY

Don't forget 'nebulous'

I think I've learned the real meaning of the first one at least three times and I still get it wrong. Since when did "non-" get to mean "super-"?

I just did a search and I found this interesting usage note: "A new meaning, ‘not disconcerted; unperturbed’, has developed recently in North American English, probably on the assumption that the prefix non- must have a negative meaning; this is not yet accepted as standard usage."
