Question about death and so much more

Walking home on Saturday night Jonah asked me if I had a choice to either die in my sleep or to be told I had a short while to live, which would I prefer? Of course our respective preferences were immediately clear as day to each other but we still enjoyed discussing (those of you who find yourselves bored, try discussing a topic - fun times!). Jonah argued for the latter choice which would enable you to say your goodbyes and I replied horrifyingly, "I don't even like to say goodbye at parties!! Do you think I want to say goodbye forever??!!" But then he said, "what if people wanted to say goodbye to you?" and my ego kicked in thinking it might be cool to hear some good stuff about you before you die but alas I would, in no uncertain terms, choose the 'death in sleep' option whereas Jonah would choose the 'time to say goodbye' option. And that's the fundamental difference between us.

What would you choose and why??

My vote is for "Death in Sleep". I agree that this route is a cop-out for the deceased (if such a claim CAN be made, after all you're the one that's dead and not the others).

I'd rather it be said at the drunken Irish-like funeral party afterwards (because the remaining must celebrate), "Oh Jeez, at dah leest, 'ee died peacfully an' pruper!" But what I WANT at that point is... largely immaterial.

I'd probably vote for "Death in Sleep" as well. I like surprises. I don't want to know when or where. If I was given a length of time, however long or short, I'd just worry myself to death anyways. All that anticipation of the impending hour of doom... Just give me a quiet passing.

Hi Andrea, Love your blog. I write sometimes on HuffPo and found you through that site. I admire you for your choice and can totally understand the appeal, but I guess I'd want to eat once last piece of chocolate, say goodbye to everyone, visit my favorite places one last time etc...

I'd definitely like to die in my sleep. Otherwise, I might end up dying in a public location or in front of someone. Instead, I'd much rather be discovered by one or two people.

Someone over at ONTD found this picture of Amy Winehouse dead. No, she's not really dead, it's a sculpture by Italian artist Marco Perego.
Woman performs fellatio on a microphone during an art opening. Surprisingly musical in an ambient sort of way.
Disney has recently purchased a script for a movie entitled The World's Most Annoying Man. Has being annoying FINALLY been accepted into the mainstream?
