"Let is snow, let it snow, let it snow..."

NYISO - EDRP & SCR were activated from 1:00 to 7:00 pm today in Zones J and K (NYC and Long Island), as well as Zones A, B, C (which include the communities of Baldwinsville, Liverpool, East Syracuse, Dewitt, Onondaga, Fairmount, Camillus, the north and southwest sides of Syracuse and the west side of Oswego. As of 1:22 p.m. on Wednesday, New York state demand was at 33,949 MW (an unoffcial, new usage record) and climbing. This will be a close one...I'd expect some load shedding that may result in rolling black-outs (usually limited to two-hours only).

NE-ISO is forecasting a demand of 28,010 MW, shattering the old record set... oh... yesterday by over 600 MW. And there's a 105 MW deficiency anticipated - someone's gonna be in the dark for certain in New England; the hot spots (no pun intended, of course) are the North Shore of Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands, and Newport, Rhode Island. Oh, and for added convenience, the NE-ISO web site has crashed due to excessive volume.

Dear Mr.Darcy,
Dude honestly where do you get your data from and what do you do for a living? Did you cause the blackout of 04'? From the sound of it you seem like the type that would climb up on a power pole and be able to do that, whats the scoop man? spread the knowledge!

LOL - I work in Emergency Planning for a global electric/gas/telecom utility - well, it's US operations anyway that are located in New England and New York and will be purchasing KeySpan (and its LIPA contract) in the near future (hint, hint there..).

We peaked at about 82,000 customer interuptions in NE (now - 10:00 p.m. at 68,000), while our NY operations peaked at 10,200 (now at the same time at about 8,100 - all upstate). Many utilities along the east coast and Canadian Provincies are looking for mutual assistance with very little to be had or shared until Friday.

While the eastern ISOs (ISO-NE, NYISO, and PJM) should hold together, tomorrow will be a challenge yet again. Friday is looking PERFECT, though, weather-wise!

And for the record, I was at Walt Disney World with my family on vacation during the blackout of August 2003, having recently returned from my second trip to the sand box - Classes of 1991, 2003, and 2006 (followed by yet another one - No. 3 - that ended only weeks ago - and NOW I'm placed on alert AGAIN - just TONIGHT, which I think is NOT correct given that there's only ONE, active military operation on-going in the Middle East).

But I'm venting - AND I'M PISSED, sorry...
