Planeful Experience

I really racked my brain wondering what I would have done had I been assigned the seat next to this guy. Keep in mind that his body mass also extended out of his seat area on the other side, not seen in this photo. As close as we've become over the years I don't feel able to share with you my thought process.

You could say I was surprised when at the end of the flight a little female NYU student with nose ring and ipod emerged out of the seat next to him. Understandably she had gone into 'shrink yourself to a third of your size' mode and most likely punched herself in the face to go into to 'pass-out' mode.

Fat people have to fly too.

I'm sorry you were so put out by something that didn't even happen to you. Gee those pesky fat people just get in the way of other peoples lives.

Try replacing the "fat" in your thoughts with a race or class of people and see how "nice" it sounds.

Bigotry isn't pretty even when it comes from someone as "pretty" as you are.

When I read this post I knew you were going to get irate comments.

However, poor little NYU girl stuck in the seat next to the fat guy. Why should sympathy be reserved only for the person who cannot control their weight?

Sure I feel bad for people who are seriously overweight due to a medical reason. However, fat people who have allowed themselves to become and stay fat shouldn't be surprised that normal sized people dread being seated next to them on an airplane. It's darn uncomfortable having to share your own cramped seat with someone who is overflowing theirs.

I also have to wonder as to the percentages of fat people in the USA who are fat due to a medical reason vs. those who are fat due to laziness and gluttony. If I read one more blog where someone complains that they can't lose weight yet regularly discuss their "super-sized" fast food consumption, I am going to lose all compassion.

I bet if Andrea was carrying a few extra pounds in her suitcase she'd have had to paid excess baggage charges, yet this guy was carrying what looks like ten times the baggage allowance on himself

All people deserve respect.

Why someone is fat, thin, tall, short, enabled, disabled really isn't anyone's business but their own.

We are all human beings and are all deserving of respect. This has nothing to do with sympathy.

All people have the right to use transportation no matter if you approve or not.

Why someone is fat, thin, tall, short, enabled, disabled really isn't anyone's business but their own, except for example when they are are squashing some poor girl into half an already small airline seat... then it also becomes her business as well! I don't want to get into a 'fattist' dialogue however whilst I agrees that all people have the right to use transportation, it is not unreasonable to expect some consideration for fellow travellers.

Fat people on airplanes irritate me almost as much as bloggers who intentionally rile their readers.
So if our favorite photoggler would cease yanking the strings, maybe our crickety jaws would jab about real racial issues.
(Or was that our puppetmaster's intent??)

BuzzFeed
"Due to his enormous weight, Manuel was not able to consummate his wedding. Then his friends came up with an idea to build him a sex ramp with resistant concrete. The ramp allowed the man to raise the lower half of his body and his wife received a better access to Uribe's private parts."
This awesome penguin has a very close call with some killer whales.
God, this just sounds like a crappy, crappy place to eat. If it were up to me, I'd have the place shut down immediately.
