Apologies. I'm really going to bore some of you.
Everyone else...let's talk MAKEUP!!
As many of you ladies out there know it takes a *lifetime* to find makeup products that work for you. Not only are we overwhelmed by choice but we also have to figure out what our makeup threshold is. For example, I'm just not that girl that spends hours putting on her face in the morning. Not only is that a heinous look but I just won't spend that much time on makeup because I'd rather be doing other things. Also, I don't wear foundation nor powder (you're really not fooling anyone...you can see it) so here's a short list of what I use and frankly, it's true: Less is more.
In order of application:
Post moisturizer primer-I love this stuff: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.

Best undereye concealer: Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit - I don't use the powder but the concealer really is creamy and sits well when applied by dab dab dabbing your finger.

Best redness concealer - I love the color red but not on skin: BenFit You're Bluffing.

Best eyeliner: Estee Lauder Artist's Eye Pencil in SoftSmudge Black.

Best eyelash curler: Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler.

Best mascara for fine, almost non-existant lashes like mine and it won't make you look like a whore although it's possible I do and no one's bothered telling me: Lancome Hypnose Mascara in Black.

Best mascara if you have normal lashes: Maybeline Great Lash.

Best blush - I'm all about sheer, sheer, sheer!: Tarte Cheek Stain in Tickled.

Best blush with staying power for dancing until dawn: Mac powder blushes - they last *forever* - I've had mine since fifth grade.

Best inexpensive lipgloss - it's that perfect, almost natural lipcolor red and it feels gooooood: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Cherries in the Glow.

Best for that pretty peach color - super soft and great consistency: Chanel Glossimer in Sirop.

Best way to maintain lip color during a long ceremony where you don't want to reapply like your wedding - wear this on its own or add gloss or whatever on top: BeneFit's Benetint.

Best cream eyeshadow that will last the entire day and night without creasing or disappearing (I used this and the two items above at my wedding): Mac Paints in Stilife.

Any thoughts? Anything I should try?? Ladies, let's not hate, let's share!
Lorac Gloss Sticks - sheer peach is my favorite - love it!
Nars After Glow Blush in orgasm - how could such a name be wrong?
Andrea, just added two things off here onto my wishlist!
My tidbits to offer: I just bought NARS lip gloss in "Pillow Talk" and I loooove it. It lasts really long and is smooth not too sticky. It is really unique pretty pink color too. As for undereye concealer...sigh...I had to pass on the Bobbi Brown after testing it at Sephora (found it a bit heavy/greasy) and reverted back to sticking with my Chanel wand. It's ridiculous but it seriously is the best thing out there, imo. A make-up artist turned me on to it and now I'm hooked. Pure, expensive-ass smoothness. Not greasy, not powdery--just right. I hate you, Chanel. (Saying this into mirror, with perfect make-up on.) Oh also Urban Decay liquid liner is amazing but they never restock the color I want (Smog).
Final thoughts:
I also use Estee Lauder soft smudge black! SAME PAGE ON THAT ONE!
Additionally, I actually have a sample of that Laura Mercier primer...what is the point of it, especially if you don't wear foundation?
Internet for life, C
Kersten,
I'll definitely try those-thanks!! You picked up on the sheer preference, heh? I wasn't sure I made it clear enough.
Chelsea,
I love Pillow Talk too. I had it for a long time but the only problem was that I felt it didn't last on the old lips for very long. But I feel you...may have to get it again...it's a great color and what's especially nice is that there's no fragrance!
Re: Chanel eyecream: Interesting, I tried the Chanel one wanting to buy into the whole Chanel thing-who can resist that gorgeous old world packaging, I can't!-but I found it too heavy and not creamy enough...we must have different undereye skin consistencies-who knew?!
Re: Urban Decay: I'll try it especially when I get my hands on Smog and then I can look you in the eye and say, "guess what they had in stock at Urban Decay today???" and I'll say smugly, "Smog." LOL!
Re: Estee Lauder Eye Pencil-It's the bomb-do people say that anymore?
Re: Primer-it really does smooth things out...you just have to try it to believe it!!
Ladies, I am loving this communication!!! Internet for life is right!!
Hhaaha re smog.
Re: Nars gloss, that's weird. I used to have a Prescriptives gloss that I used but it would last like a minute. So to me the Nars seems to last forever. But apparently I haven't tried Benetint.
How long does the Revlon last, in LPMs?
Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!
I love this sharing. Here are my favorites:
For the undereyes:
Christian Dior Anticerne Diorlift
Smoothing Anti Fatigue Concealer
When you first put it on it does do the crazy concealer look but ah after a bit you look refreshed and refreshed all day long.
When I eyeshadow which is not always. I love Urban Decay Urb. It is a green shimmery and it is great with brown eyes.
I really can't say that I have ever loved a namebrand black eyeliner that isn't the same as a generic liner. I do love liquid black eyeliners that I get at the Beauty Supply Shop and they look like an old inkpen.
For the Lips:
I am enamored with Nars lips and really fancy the lipcolor, Dolce Vita. It is a great neutral pink. Everyday lip color. And so great when you have smoky eyes.
A gloss I really like is Plump by The Balm in
Spike My Punch. It is fruit punch smelling and looking.
I also love Tarte 24/7 Lip Sheer and I have the color, Wednesday.
For my blush...drumroll please. For those who know me I am a whore with blush. I love it. I put too much on. But I think it is so cute. Ah! How we all have these crazy delusions. Well I loved this cranberry colored blush from Dior. And they haven't had it for a year now. I am seriously like a crackhead with my last one. The case is all broken and it just keeps on going. I love it. I know it must come to an end. I don't even want to know the throw away date for blush. Agh! Okay did I just take over the blog? Sorry but this got my motor running.......
Wait I forgot mascara. And again if anyone knows me, I am just a walking Mascara and cheeks kind of girl. I love Great Lash but I wish they had some different brushes. Longer and bushier. Eww that just looks and sounds weird but you understand.
Hey ya'll...some of my favorites are as follows:
Tutti Dolce lip gloss in Angel Food Cake. The color & texture is great & it lasts, the added bonus is that it tastes fantastic & it's the one lip gloss my boyfiend loves...though I have to practicly beat him off with a stick sometimes because he just won't stop kissing me! I picked mine up at Bath & Body Works.
Tweezerman has the best eyelash curler...EVER! & I love their tweezers too...there are none better.
With as many different mascaras that I've tried (Chanel, Lancome, Clinique, etc.) the best is good 'ol Great Lash & I agree with Gabby that they need brush options.
Some great eyeshadows are the liquid kind from Chanel in Source, which is a light shimmery pink, and by light I mean light pink, & Sand, which is the color of, well, sand. They are very pretty & not overstated at all. I love that it stays on ALL day & night. It dries quickly & doesn't crease or smudge AT ALL.
Well, this has been fun! I'm keeping notes for the next time I'm in Sephora...Thanks girls!
I just have to add one more thing because it is sooooo radical:
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat!!!
Another one of those crazy expensive products that is worth EVERY penny! This stuff makes your skin look pourless and is so light you can't even feel it. I know other companies like Laura Mercier are coming out with similar products, but I haven't tried them. Trust me though this stuff works wonders on your undereyes and any redness you may have..and it come in this great pump activated brush wand. Perfect for your purse!
I've been using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer for several years and find no reason to switch. If you find the porcelain too pale and the nude too yellow/grey -- buy them both (or two shades right for you) and mix them.
If you want a little more coverage (say, for evening) mix your tinted moisturizer with a drop or two of sheer foundation. I recommend Giorgio Armani. I think it's in the $40/50 price range, but you won't be using it much. Lots of shades and always blend with tinted moisturizer to really customize your own color and consistency.
La Prairie has the most luxurious lipstick formula, but their colors are weird. If you like reds, they have one classic and one dark red for pale faces. The price range is up there, but I think it's the best lipstick formula I've ever tried. I think I might use red lipstick when I'm old. This is really a splurge and red is just a difficult color to keep on.
Lately, I've been into the Giorgio Armani line for that super-natural updated look . A makeup artist introduced me to the shadows and blushes. All of the shades are really really sheer so if you're looking for a wash of color in a neutral palette for the eyes or pretty pale colors for cheeks this is a good line to try. Their cream blush is also nice. Use a brush to apply (instead of fingers). Looks natural and you'll avoid the fingerprint look on your face.
Also from GA -- try the Bronzer in Shade #1. Super natural. Lips and glosses are nice too. BTW, I think Barneys just opened a new GA beauty boutique.
Try shu uemura brushes for the eyes and cheeks. They have a nice travel set that fits in your purse.
I'm still looking for the perfect concealer. I recently tried cle de peau. It's pricey so I'm still deciding whether or not I like it. The color is right, but not sure about the consistency.
I'm also still looking for the perfect mascara. That should be a no-brainer by now, but I'll keep your picks in mind. And for those of you who are unsatisfied with the brushes from Great Lash, try buying those inexpensive disposable lash brushes (supercheap at Ricky's or nicer ones at Makeup Forever).
Oh! I didn't think I would like it, but I recently tried the Bobbi Brown gel liners (in the pots). It's tricky to apply. Try using their shorter brush to apply and use a mirror close up. Nice high quality pigment.
Ciao to all my beautiful friends!
Lily girl, I'M WITH YOU on the touche eclat. Just bought it duty free last week - $19, I think that's good right?
It's a keeper!
and in the *best eyeshadow* category: Stila, "kitten" --sort of a shimmery champagne, goes w/everything, it's purrrfect.
btw, did you know benetint was first invented for strippers who wanted to tint their nipples a rosier hue for performances? true that.
Andrea, what shade of Hypnose do you use?
Hey Jodi,
Black is the way to go!!
