Salesperson's bad math.

I'm in Williams & Sonoma and a saleswoman whips up a nice little cup of espresso for me.

I start admiring the coffee machine and ask how much it is. She replies jovially, "$3200!"

My face falls and she says, "You know, if you're someone who buys Starbucks coffee everyday, it adds up! and within a year, buying this is *a lot* cheaper!"

I said, "Riiight! That's truuue!" when really I should have said, "$4.00 x 30 days = $120. $120 x 12 months = $1440...soooooo...how is $3200 less than $1440??!!"

LOL. The salesperson's bad math is even worse when you correct Andrea's bad math. $120 x 12 is only $1,440. :)

Buy a Starbucks Barista Machine. Much less expensive but excellent quality in my opinion. I did it and I have indeed saved a lot over the years of deliciousness at home. I'm in Canada where I paid a little less than $400 for my machine about 4 or 5 years ago.

I am curious how many of these types of products actually cost a lot less to produce than we even realize?

For example, an old college buddy of mine used to sell Kirby vacuum cleaners. The street price was something like $1,900, but they were authorized to allow the prospective buyers to talk the price down to about $1,000 because they regional manager could get them for $800.

However, we later did some calculations on the back of a napkin and we came up with an actual production cost of close to $300!

The alternative is that you can set up a Friends of Andrea Harner committee and through some ingenious fundraising you can have your coffee machine and drink coffee too!

I once bought a coffee maker and justified it by telling myself "after 700 cups of coffee it will pay for itself!" (not taking in to account the cost of coffee beans (sugar /creme where applicable) polishing agents, etc)

It's been about 2 years...I've made about 5 cups and only drunken about 3.

My accountant fucking loves me!
