I thank everyone involved with the NY State Grand Jury process for giving my life a purpose.

Update: I'm a Special Narcotics Grand Juror and the only thing that's a bummer is that after serving this time, I won't be called back for 8 years!!

I have been selected to participate in our grand legal system as a grand juror for the next four weeks...count 'em up! FOUR weeks! I am going to be a freakin' lawyer by the end of it! Consider yourselves warned!!!

Of course my instict is to blog the whole thing but even I can rise above my petty needs ok? So I won't live blog the proceedings I'll wait until I get home to spill/blog the beans...ha ha ha ha HA!!

For the difference between a trial juror and a grand juror I suggest googling "difference between trial juror and grand juror" or something similiar to that.

Well, one good thing is that you can't be recalled for more jury for at least another four years. If it were a regular jury, they can call you back in two.

Your primary duties as a grand juror is to 1) determine whether or not there is enough evidence to go to trial and 2) determine what charges are applicable in each case. That's. IT.

Don't know how legal it is to blog grand jury precedings, but I don't think it's a good idea.. especially if the perp, er, suspects happen to look at your blog and don't agree with your opinions..

Would this be in DC? Today I swear I saw an Andrea Harner-looking person driving south on Rt. 1 in College Park, MD in a black Volkswagon.

woohoo! I'm reading your blog from the court house on centre/lafayette where I am serving jury duty also! I just missed getting put on a 2 week trial today, but there's still time left. have fun!

I just served and I was told 6 years till I would be called back.

I imagined the process being infinitely more painful
however I was pleasantly surprised. Convenient parking garage , quick access , good security w. sheriffs guarding all posts, what more could a juror ask for? (wifi?)

Well...come to think of it, in CT jurors get their own (free) parking garage..but that's for a society of commuters
