Last night I saw a screening of Nobody Knows and all I know is that this is a beautiful, crushing movie, truly worth seeing. It opens in theaters tomorrow...I can only hope and dream of ever being involved in such a terrific film!

Is Andrea involved in the film business? She states that she would like to be involved with such a film.
Posted by: Bob at February 3, 2005 12:39 PMHaving not seen the film, I can only comment on the movie's topic - child abandonment. This thought, in every form (physical, emotional, financial, etc...), (truthfully) sickens me. This comes from a father of three (ages 4 through 8). While I understand (and can even accept - imagine that for a Republican!) that some people's mental condition may preclude them from understanding fully the results of the abandonment, I cannot imagine how a parent could do such a thing. Taking the time (however brief or unwanted it may be) to create a child requires acceptance of the consequences - in all forms. Put otherwise... "Don't lay the seed, unless you're willing to finish the deed." A bit crass but effective. Once arrived in this world, you're responsible for that child - from start to finish, regardless of who gets to the finish line first...
The reviews don't mention the children's outcome other than they were family then and are family now, but I presume it's all for the better - on this subject, I WILL play the part of Pollyanna (and exercise artistic license).
Posted by: |mr|Darcy at February 3, 2005 2:16 PMDon't your comments, Mr. Darcy, in some way illustrate Mr. Buffet's lessons. Some of us win the sperm lottery and some of us don't.
God knows, Warren was laughing on the inside during that entire session. He might as well has said the sky is blue -- NO SHIT!!!
How about everything is relative, and I want what Warren has.
How about Warren is preaching in order to keep the people from revolting? I want more, more more.
Or maybe Warren's right. After all, I only skimmed the article
Posted by: Bob at February 3, 2005 4:45 PMI want to see that film.
Posted by: Goa trance music at February 3, 2005 8:34 PMSperm or egg, Bob, the parents are still responsible - Mr.Buffet notwithstanding (why do I want to be, "Nibblin' on sponge cake [and] watchin' the sun bake[?]"). I can appreciate his comments, and they're sound advice, but he has the benefit of being able to look down from the top of the hill. And not vice versa. I suspect he might be chuckling - just a li'l... "For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbors and laugh at them in our turn?" Indeed...
Regardless, people need to be held responsible (and culpable, where necessary) for their own actions.
Posted by: |mr|Darcy at February 3, 2005 9:52 PMFor a slightly less serious look at 'responsibility,' I'd recommend a look at 'Are We There Yet?' There's a moment in there that looks at the other side of this problem. IceCube continues to impress me as an actor..
Also, if anyone is still reading, please go out to Virgin and buy as many copies of "Better Luck Tommorow" on DVD as you can, as the filmmakers are great guys. Not "A Better Tomorrow," as Chow Yun Fat already has more money than he knows what to do with.
